America’s favorite semi-regular blog post is back. The rest of October and November offer loads of awesome opportunities to witness world class musicians and comedians doing what they do best. Keep on reading for the upcoming shows in Richmond I’m most excited about!
1. Modest Mouse
Lol, j/k. I don’t know what a Modest Mouse is and I refuse to look it up.
Theo Von – November 5th
Seriously, look at that mullet. You don’t want to listen to jokes from that haircut? Some of you 90’s kids might remember Theo from MTV Road Rules and then The Challenge, but since then he’s carved out a super successful career as a stand-up comedian and podcaster. Spending most of his formative years in Louisiana fostered a unique brand of comedy, backed by a smooth southern accent, that is difficult to resist. Head on over to Netflix for some in-depth research. Or, if you trust me, catch him at the Dominion Energy Center on November 5th!
Midland – November 6th
I’m particularly excited about this one! Midland is a trio of 90’s country throwbacks. Shamelessly themselves, these gents know how to entertain (those outfits though). The band got together in 2016 and burst onto the scene with the massive hit “Drinkin’ Problem”. No one-hit wonders, follow up singles “Burn Out”, “Make a Little”, and “Mr. Lonely” also climbed the charts and proved Midland was here to stay. If today’s brand of country music has left you longing for the glory days – look no further. Join me and some friends at The National on November 6th and see the fellas from Dripping Springs, TX live!
Tom Segura – November 13th
Fans of stand-up don’t need me to tell them about Mr. Segura. One of the most successful (and perhaps my absolute favorite) touring comics and podcasters today, Tom Segura is coming to our fair city on November 13th at the Altria Theater. Known for his brash, boundary-pushing style, Segura will make you fall off your chair laughing and terribly uncomfortable all at the same time. Born to a Peruvian mother, he also performs shows in Spanish. Nailing punchlines and timing in one language is impressive enough, but two? If G-rated, uplifting humor is your cup of tea you can probably sit this one out. But if you don’t mind getting out of your comfort zone scoop up one of the few remaining tickets and thank me later!
Brothers Osborne – November 18th
I’d never heard of these gents until I came across their hit “Stay a Little Longer” on the radio in 2018. Since then their albums Pawn Shop and Port Saint Joe are mainstays in my Spotify rotation. Born up the coast in Maryland, the brothers cut their teeth learning and playing with parents, uncles, and cousins at family gatherings. From there they moved to Nashville and tried to carve out careers independently before teaming up around 2012. Known for unique vocals and guitar heavy songs (one of their hits has a 7 minute solo), the brothers have finally found the staying power they deserve. You can check them out in person at the Altria Theater on 11/18.
And there you have it, folks! Thanks for stopping by and checking out the upcoming shows in Richmond I’m most excited about for the rest of this month and next. I intend to be at every one of these so if you see me, say hi, buy me a beer, and get ready for a good time. As always, if you’re interested in whatever the heck else I feel like talking about on a weekly (…sometimes) basis, check out my other posts here. And if you have any questions, concerns, or simply want to say what’s up – reach out!
Until next time…
