It’s easy to get swept up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. We go straight from costumes and candy, to turkey and stuffing, right into carols and Christmas trees. Too often, when we should focus on all the blessings life offers, we forget that others aren’t quite so fortunate. So this week I want to use this space to highlight a wonderful organization that hasn’t forgotten, The Giving Heart.
The Giving Heart – Richmond, VA.
The Giving Heart’s mission is to provide food, fellowship, and essential items to those in need. While active throughout the year, perhaps their most impactful event is the annual Community Thanksgiving Feast. This Greater Richmond tradition offers food and fellowship to approximately 3000 individuals. All are welcomed with special emphasis on the homeless, elderly, low-income families and individuals, and those who otherwise would be alone on Thanksgiving.
The 2021 Community Thanksgiving Feast will offer a repeat of their 2020 event – take-out, curbside pickups and limited deliveries to senior/disabled complexes. This year, in conjunction with some of our food deliveries, they are offering Senior Boxes. These boxes will contain a collection of any items that would be beneficial to the senior population such as nonperishable foods, toiletries, etc.
When?
Thursday, November 25th from 11am – 2pm.
Where?
The Greater Richmond Convention Center, entrance at 5th and Marshall Streets.

This year I intend to spend a little extra time thinking about what I’m most grateful for. The Giving Heart here in Richmond is awfully high on that list. Please keep them in mind this Thanksgiving.
